"Green building" benefits every one now
and into the future. The American dream of owning a house can be
achieved with incorporating green building products that improve
environmental performance. Such measures need not be cost
prohibitive, but cannot be realized with conventional building
methods. But what does green building mean?
Green building:
- Improves well-being and quality of life for the
inhabitants.
- Helps the environment, conserve energy and resources as
well as use more recycled and eco-friendly products.
- Reduces the use of hazardous substances to which people
and their pets are exposed too.
- Improves the eco-system for the entire building life
cycle.
Green building products are selected
according to their eco-efficiency and eco-friendliness. This process
considers the life cycle of the product:
- Energy needed to produce the product
- Energy the product will safe during its existence
- Energy used to remove and recycle the
product
A major point to consider is that green-build
houses are healthier to live in. No more worries about
mold, mildew and moisture. With fresh air ducted through an ERV
(energy recovery ventilation) humidity is controlled between 45% -
65%. While stale air is exhausted to the outside, energy is
extracted from it and transferred to the fresh air coming in.
Off-gasing from products used in the building process is
non-existent or reduced.
Some of the products included in the green
building are:
- Tankless water heater
- Point-of-use water heater
- Home run plumbing
- Low-flow plumbing fixtures
- Fresh air duct system

- Energy recovery ventilation
- HVAC optimization (less tonnage
needed)
- Energy Star windows, doors,
appliances
